When I watched this video of the Health Ranger Mike Adams, I was reminded of something I noticed at an event I spoke at. I was invited to speak with a group of moms last week and I was surprised at how many were not aware of the acronyms GMO (Genetically Modified Organisms), and GE (Geneticaly Engineered), and their relationship to our food supply.

Because our bodies are organic matter it is my belief that my body can not recognize so called foods created in some laboratory, or inorganic matter. By recognize I mean my body usually does 3 things after I swallow something. It digests and assimilates the nutrients into my system if it’s nutritious, or it excreets it if it thinks it is bad or poison, or, if it does not know what the food is, my body stores it in my fat because my body still thinks I might starve in the future and thinks this new substance may be useful to the body in the future.

I have come to think this way because I can remember back in the 70′s my father used to take me fishing. Part of our ritual was to take the fish home clean them and cook them. Then one trip my father told me not to eat the fat and skin. Then we stopped taking them home altogther. My father told me he heard of a study where the salmon were eating food contaminated with chemicals (I think it was DDT back then) and this study found that the fish were storing it in their fat , probably because they didn’t recognize this new addition to their food supply and therefore the fish’s body was not sure what to do with this new substance in its environment.

Doesn’t this make sense now that we see our children and entire population getting fatter and fatter. More and more of these large food companies and animal feed companies are using laboratories to come up with ways to save money in the production and distribution of their products. This is a necessity for them in order to give the products a longer shelf life so they can be shipped further away from the plant increasing revenue and profit.

Take a look at this video and let me know what you think.

This interview by Dr Campbell nails it for me and my family. Even if there is no Autism in your family, this article and Dr Campbells book, will give you a great understanding of the importance of eating live dairy products for your digestive tract’s microbial health, and therefore, your overall health. It all starts in your gut. If you are not addressing your microbial balance in your digestive tract, EVERYTHING else you are doing is just window dressing.

I am so glad and appreciative for those farmers with the courage to stand up for what they believe.
Mark Mcafee is someone I respect very much. Although I have never met him, Mark has done more for the “Live milk” industry in my opinion than any one else in this country, and mostly by example.

I am trying to run our family farm here in Texas much like Mark runs his out there in California, letting Mother Nature take the lead. Bacteria is a part of Mother Nature. We cannot live without bacteria!!

The article below by Loren does a good job of reminding you of bacteria’s place in our lives.

The Truth About Milk

By Loren Muldowne (Rodale Institute)

Mark McAfee is owner of Organic Pastures Dairy Co. in Fresno, California. McAfee explains ‘raw’ milk is milk in its natural state, as it comes from the cow, without heat treatment or pasteurization. Pasteurization is used to extend shelf life and to immobilize certain bacteria, he said, and public health authorities generally appear convinced that this process is highly desirable. But McAfee believes that the pasteurization process is bastardizing the milk.

Are bacteria really that bad?

Even when produced under the most sanitary conditions, he said, it is normal for milk to contain some bacteria, and human societies have been coexisting and benefiting from these bacteria in the milk for thousands of years. Today products are marketed as containing “probiotics,” as if this is something brand new. Of course, McAfee said, various active bacteria have always been in these foods. Some of what he termed “Mother Nature’s truths about bacteria” follows:

Bacteria…

…are earth’s oldest life forms.

…are everywhere.

…are essential for human survival.

…comprise more than 90 percent of the cells in the human body.

It’s no small wonder, then, that McAfee suggests that public obsession with killing bacteria misdirects efforts at improving public health, because relatively few bacteria are pathogenic. By constantly sterilizing and pasteurizing and disinfecting, he said, we tip the balance in favor of the pathogen. ‘Is it possible that reducing the microbial biodiversity of the human body has created more disease than it has prevented?’ he asks.

Raw milk is another of Mother Nature’s truths, McAfee asserted. Raw milk is “new” only in the sense that it used to just be called “milk,” without the adjective implying that there is something unusual about it, pasteurization is what’s relatively new. In American cities in the early 1900s, pasteurization permitted the safe use of poor quality milk by destroying pathogens introduced by its production method. That’s a plus if you need to use poor quality milk, McAfee said. But milk has always been the first food of newborn mammals so how could it be intrinsically hazardous? Human societies developed and prospered upon (raw) milk for centuries.

“When mothers nurse their babies, do we make a point of saying that the babies are drinking ‘raw’ mothers milk?” McAfee asked rhetorically.

Milk intended for direct consumption should meet high standards of production, he said, beginning with the genetics, feeding, bedding and housing of the cows. McAfee uses rotational grazing of well-managed pastures and keeps his cows mostly outdoors, on a diverse forage ecosystem. He believes pasture-fed cattle do not have the acidified rumen of the grain-fed industrial dairy cow so they are less susceptible to developing acid-tolerant gut bacteria. Without antibiotic use, McAfee said, there is no problem with evolution of antibiotic resistance. Conjugated linoleic acids are highest in milk from pasture-fed cows, and the vitamins, natural fats and enzymes are all intact.

According to McAfee, it is difficult to get at the truth because so much research is little more than advertising—self-interested and commercial. Stories offered by those who have been helped by taking charge of their own health are largely dismissed as “anecdotal.” But if you take a big collection of anecdotes and add statistical analysis, you have a study, said McAfee. He believes this kind of research would actually benefit the public so it is appropriate that the National Institute of Health or other public agencies should fund such work.

Many anecdotes about raw milk involve people reporting that chronic diseases such as arthritis, Crohn’s disease, asthma, ulcers, irritable bowel syndrome or chronic ear infections are eliminated by a change to drinking raw milk. These diseases are lumped under the heading “autoimmune problems,” McAfee said, and they are generally unexplained and uncured by modern, “Western” medicine.

McAfee shared one such anecdote about Kimeli, a Maasai tribesman from east Africa who came to the United States to study at Stanford University. Kimeli grew up drinking milk (known in the U.S. as “raw milk”), but after arriving in the states got sicker and sicker and was diagnosed with severe lactose intolerance and Crohn’s disease. Ultimately it was recommended that part of his colon be removed. He resisted this idea and began to drink “raw milk”. His lactose intolerance somehow did not apply to this milk. For the better part of a year he drank a daily half gallon of raw whole milk. Kimeli, McAfee said, remains convinced that this food is what allowed his damaged insides to heal.

McAfee advised the audience that it is illegal to say that anything other than a recognized pharmaceutical product can cure a disease and reports that he was fined several thousand dollars for putting such customer testimonials (anecdotes) on his business website. (Presumably, private citizens are still allowed to share their own stories provided that the anecdotes do not appear on commercial websites.)

McAfee’s take-home message is that people can educate themselves directly and make health choices without the intervention of so-called “experts.” An informed consumer, he said, is always his best customer.

————————————————————————
Loren Muldowney, the author of this article holds a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and a master’s degree in soils and water from Rutgers University, where she is continuing studies in sustainable agriculture. Her backyard is home to nine compost units, organic gardens, and is a certified wildlife habitat.

Conjugated linoleic acids (CLA) may improve the airway hyper-reactivity in asthmatics, according to the results of a new study. A dose of 4.5 grams of CLA each day produced significant reduction in airway hyper-responsiveness. It also had favorable effects on body weight. CLA is a fatty acid, which is found in ruminant meat and dairy products. Average intake of CLA has fallen over the years due to changes in the Western diet. NutraIngredients reports: “A significant body of science supports the potential of the ingredient to enhance lean body mass and aid in body sculpting. The new study … is the first to report that the ingredient may also have benefits for overweight asthmatics.” Sources: NutraIngredients July 19, 2010 Clinical and Experimental Allergy 40(7): 1071-1078; July 2010

Dr. Mercola’s Comments: There’s very little debate in this country about whether or not asthma and obesity are serious public health issues. Statistics show that age-adjusted asthma rates in the United States are up over 75 percent since 1980, with annual expenditures for health and lost productivity due to asthma estimated to be over $20 billion, according to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.

The truth is about 23 million Americans now suffer from asthma, including almost 7 million children. Where there is some controversy, unfortunately, is what to do about this growing threat of asthma to your health. Are Inhalers the Best Treatment for You? The conventional asthma treatment typically consists of a non-steroidal bronchodilator – an anti-inflammatory agent that you inhale. It causes the smooth muscle cells in your lungs to relax, which opens up your airways. If that doesn’t t work, the next level is typically an inhaled steroid, which is a very potent anti-inflammatory agent. The reason these aggressive types of intervention are performed is because asthma is indeed a serious condition. It can be fatal, so you need to be serious about treating it. Unfortunately, as usual, Big Pharma wants you to believe that their inhaled asthma drugs are the magic bullet you need to combat this disease, but the truth is asthma medicines don’t work and can be dangerous to your health. In fact, a new box warning on one long-acting beta2-adrenergic agonist (LABA) clearly states that LABA can actually increase the rate of asthma-related death!

It is not that fast-acting inhalers ar without any benefits as they have no doubt saved the lives of asthma suffers during acute attacks and do have an important role in managing this debilitating and chronic condition. But they should be used as a last resort. I’ll tell you why. Fast-acting asthma inhalers can lose their effictivenesswhen overused, the medical term is tachyphylaxis, and this can start to happen after as little as one dose. Also, all beta2-adrenergic agonists have been shown to have negative effects on your heart and your body’s metabolism. Because asthma is a disease involving allergic reactions and inflammation, a much better strategy for you is to prevent asthma in the first place through keeping inflammatory conditions in your body to an absolute minimum.

Keeping inflammation in check includes properly regulating your omega 3 to omega 6 ratios. One great omega 3 fatty acid I want you to think about including in your healthy diet is conjugated linoleic acid (CLA). How CLA Helps Asthmatics Asthmatics get asthma because they produce much higher levels of leukotrienes, which are fatty molecules of the immune system and at least 1000 times more potent than histamine at causing bronchial constriction. These highly inflammatory leukotrienes are produced when an enzyme known as 5-lipoxygenase (5-lipox) acts on a particular fat called arachidonic acid (AA). Many of the inhaled drugs that treat your asthma work by reducing leukotrienes. But there’s a more natural way for you to fight leukotrienes. With nutrition you can reduce the precursor molecules (5-lipox and AA) in your body, thus preventing the inflammation from ever being produced. CLA helps fight 5-lipox and AA inflammation without harming your arteries. CLA does this by converting inside your body to both DHA and EPA, both of which have powerful anti-inflammatory properties. CLA can also help lower blood pressure, which is a serious condition that may be a co-factor in your asthma.

One of the best things you can do for your health right now is to balance your omega 3 to omega 6 fat ratios, and CLA from organic, grass-fed meats can play a big part in this. The Best Source of CLA Frequent readers of my newsletter know that I am a strong advocate for getting vital nutrients and healthy fats from whole natural food sources as opposed to taking supplements. In fact, I’ve long said that substituting supplements for good nutrition could be hazardous to your health. CLA is no exception. While plant-based sources are good, a better natural source of CLA is grass fed beef. In fact, grass fed beef is the source I recommend above all other sources for naturally supplying your body with CLA. You’ll notice I said grass fed beef, not grain fed beef. Why? Because grain is not a natural diet for cows, and grain fed cows have been shown to produce meat significantly lower in healthy CLA. Real Beef Eat Grass – Not Grains Grass fed beef: Has higher CLA profiles than grain fed beef Has overall better fatty acid and anti-oxidant profiles than grain fed beef Is more nutritious than grain fed beef Is better for your body than grain fed beef

Other CLA Health Benefits – CLA offers a whole host of healthy benefits that have been virtually eliminated from kitchens in America thanks to the rise of corporate grain fed beef farms. The CLA found in grass fed beef can also: Help you gain muscle and lose fat Inhibit growth of cancer cells Provide relief for arthritis Build endurance, improve body composition and regulate insulin levels Help with Diabetes You can support both your own health and the livelihood of the farmers out there who are trying to do things the right way, by eating grass-fed beef and organic food. It is best to obtain your grass-fed beef locally as shipping costs can be very high, but if your local grocery store doesn’t carry grass-fed meats yet, check out the options at our Web store. How to Prevent Asthma Naturally Although asthma is a serious disease, safely treating your asthma is not a complicated affair. Here are some basic, simple strategies that can help treat the root of your problem: Optimize your vitamin D levels – We now know that there’s a very strong connection between vitamin D levels and asthma, as vitamin D can be a very powerful immune modulator. However, I don’t suggest just taking the recommended daily allowance, which is a mere 400 units a day. You really need to make sure you’re getting therapeutic levels. This is ideally obtained from exposing a significant amount of your skin — not just your hands and face – to appropriate amounts of sunlight. I do recommend oral supplements if you don’t have regular access to the sun or a safe tanning bed. But if you do, make sure you monitor your blood with an accurate test . The one caution here in the US is to be certain your test is performed at a lab like Labcorp, that uses the gold standard Diasorin test for checking vitamin D levels. If you get your levels to about 60 ng/ml, there’s a strong likelihood — especially if you combine it with exercise and balancing out your omega 3 and omega 6 fats as described below — that you will not experience the symptoms of asthma anymore. Increase your intake of animal-based omega 3 fats – I can’t emphasize enough the importance of getting sufficient amounts of high quality animal-based omega 3 fats in your diet. Because although I strongly believe we all need plant-based omega 3 fats (and I consume some virtually every day myself, like hemp seed or flax seed), the difference is that most of us do not possess the metabolic machinery to rapidly convert the ALA in these plants to the higher order fats DHA and EPA, which are potent anti-inflammatories. Although I still recommend fish oil in some instances, I believe krill oil is an even better source of omega 3 fats for most people. Reduce your intake of omega 6 fats – In addition to adding omega 3 fats to your diet, you also want to reduce the amount of omega 6 fats you consume because the ratio between these two fats is very important. If you use a lot of processed foods, the balance between omega 3 and omega 6 fats will become distorted, which can cause the type of inflammation that leads to asthma. Avoid processed foods – Processed foods tend to unbalance your microflora, which researchers have recently linked to increased asthma in children.

Consider the hygiene hypothesis – There’s a tendency in our modern culture to be obsessive about cleanliness, especially in children. However, this may not be as healthy as initially thought. It appears that being exposed to common bacterial and viral infections as a child can be instrumental in providing the stimulus to your immune system to prevent asthma naturally. Get regular exercise – Exercise (especially out in fresh air if you’re an asthmatic) is actually crucial as it helps to moderate your insulin levels. It increases your insulin receptor sensitivity, and as a result your body produces less insulin, which tends to optimize it.

Research has also shown that asthmatics who exercise tend to show improvement in: Maximum ventilation Maximal oxygen uptake Work capacity, and Maximum heart rate You can also use allergy testing to build up your immune system. My experience is that conventional testing does not work very effectively and there is a fair amount of risk. A far better intradermal skin test would be provocation neutralization testing. The American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM) has a list of physicians who are trained in this highly effective technique. If you follow these simple strategies mentioned above, you can virtually eliminate your need for bronchodilators and steroid drugs.

Most of my posts up to now have been aimed at educating my customers/consumers of raw and organic dairy products. Every day at our farm store I am asked by concerned parents what is in our food. Most of the concerns are centered around one question, ”Could my childs ailment have been caused by the food I am feeding him/her.” It is an assumption on our part that this posts answers that question completely. However, this more technical post is really directed at farmers. Until recently, after a conversation with a third generation farmer/mentor of mine, I wasn’t aware that farmers are just as much in the dark about what is in our food and farm feed as the consumers are. My mentor was checking out my site and mentioned to me he was not aware of particular facts mentioned on my site.

This caught me completely by surprise. I just thought those that were around farming all their lives knew what was really going on behind the scene. How could they not know what is in their feed??? Well, the truth is todays small farmer is working harder and harder to make less. As sad as that statement is, the real tragedy is the people who should know the most about what goes into Americans mouths are actually being mislead themselves.

For years now our agricultural feed system has been concerned with growing more for less. In an attempt to be more efficient and economical (for the short term, remember public corporations report quarterly profits/loss) this short sighted planning has failed to take into consideration the complete ecosystem.

This professor doesn’t make any connection between human illness and animal illness but watch the video and draw your own conclusions.

Most studies are paid for by a private party with a vested interest in the outcome.

With this in mind, by all means read the studies, try the information in your life and keep what works for you and throw out the rest. But don’t take for fact any information that comes to you (including the info on my website) until you have first hand experience.

This link should have been posted many years ago when the big dairy corporations first tried to tell Americans to buy their skim milk which was actually a by product, or what was left, after dairy food manufacturing.

This article is a good example of the revolving door between govt agencies and the corporations they regulate (people leaving agencies to work for large corporations and vice versa) and the problems it poses for the uninformed public. There are former Monsanto employees sitting on the US Supreme Court as well as the USDA and FDA among others. Coincidence??????

As a former lobbyist I am aware of the methods large corporations use to manipulate govt agencies in their favor. There are no demons or bad guys here. The management of these large corporations have a fiduciary responsibility to increase profit margins. These companies are made up of people just like you and me. They have mortgages to pay and kids to feed. We all justify what we do in our own mind to provide for own families. However, more of these articles should be published so we can all make a more informed choice of whether we want to feed these foods to our children. If we change our buying habits, they will change their growing, packaging , distribution and selling habits.
